What is a salary sacrifice car scheme?
A salary sacrifice car scheme is a benefit you can offer your employees to help them drive a brand-new, insured and maintained car for less.
Salary sacrifice is when an employee agrees to give up part of their salary for a non-cash benefit. In this case, a car provided by your company. The amount sacrificed from their gross salary will reduce the income tax and National Insurance Contributions (NIC) they pay. This creates savings that make the car more affordable.
As this benefit is a company car, the employee must also pay tax on the Benefit in Kind (BiK) associated with using the car. There are currently low BiK tax rates for electric and low-emission cars.
At the end of the term, the employee will return the car, and their salary will go back to normal.
