CLM’s Electric Vehicle Experience Day

CLM’s Electric Vehicle Experience Day

As part of our ongoing efforts to engage with and educate clients about electric vehicles (EVs) and their role in fleets, we recently held an electric vehicle experience and education day at Chicheley Hall, Milton Keynes. The event involved leading EV manufacturer, Renault, and the UK’s largest supplier of charge points, Chargemaster.

The event was attended by fleet decision makers from amongst our client base and involved presentations from both suppliers.  The fleet managers could then get behind the wheel of a number of EVs available for test driving purposes.

Vehicle tests

Renault has the largest line-up of EVs of any European vehicle manufacturer.  A number of its electric models were available for test purposes, including the Zoe ( Europe’s biggest selling EV), the Twizy and the Kangoo ZE. Renault’s presentation favourably compared the whole life costs of similar traditionally-fuelled models to its electric vehicles, showing that the EV savings really can stack up.

For Chargemaster, EV Experience Centre Partnership Manager Ben Grocott, told the audience that existing UK charging point numbers have now reached 14,438. He detailed the rate by which the infrastructure is growing and the different charging speeds of the chargers currently accessible. He also explained the system of grants that were available for both the purchase of EVs and for the installation of chargepoints at home and in the workplace.

What's driving the uptake of AFVs

Education and grants

Did you know that under the EV Homecharge scheme, the registered keeper or lessee of an EV is eligible for a grant of up to £500 of the cost of a charger and installation at their own home? A £300 grant per socket is available for chargepoints in the workplace, up to a maximum of 20 per employer across all sites.

John Lawrence, Managing Director at CLM, commented, “Our thanks to both Renault UK and Chargemaster for taking part in our EV education experience for our customers.

Our research has shown that many drivers need help to understand the various electric and hybrid powered vehicles on the market and that sales won’t accelerate towards Government targets without more engagement.

Education days like this one can definitely help and we plan to hold more events in various parts of the country over the coming months.”
