CLM Rental to support 2015 Christmas Child campaign
International relief and development organisation, Samaritan’s Purse, has selected CLM Rental to help fulfil this year’s Christmas Child campaign.
Each year, Samaritan’s Purse distributes around 10 million shoe boxes to under-privileged children in various parts of the world, including Africa, Central Asia, the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
In 2014, some 850,000 of these came from the UK – this year, the UK target is one million. There are 85 export centres across the country holding the gifts, which are donated by members of the public, often through local school or church campaigns.
The gifts, which must all fit in shoe box sized containers, typically include school supplies, hygiene items and toys.
The logistical operation to facilitate the collection and delivery from some 3,000 drop-off sites around the UK is enormous and requires a fleet of several hundred vans working around the clock for a three month period from October to early January.
Earlier in the year, Samaritan’s Purse selected CLM Rental to provide the transport for the 2015 Christmas Child campaign. Up to 200 vans, typically LWB Ford Transits, are likely to be required across the country.
CLM Rental, the corporate rental arm of fleet management specialist CLM, can meet this commitment because it has access to a multi-supply network, including all the leading rental suppliers, with a total of over 1,500 outlets across the UK.
Through this network, CLM can provide vehicle rentals on passenger cars, light commercial vehicles and minibuses, and more specialist vehicles if required, with a suite of rental solutions covering every period from one day to 12 months.
Samaritan’s Purse can manage its vehicle rentals online, via the award-winning IRIS rental management system, which provides a complete overview of all vehicle hires and their location.
The system also enables users to book, extend and cancel vehicle rentals, monitor existing rentals and access a comprehensive range of management reporting and invoicing.
Logistics manager at Samaritan’s Purse, Rob Davies, said that the online system had been one of the key reasons behind the decision to switch the supply of vehicles this year to CLM from a national daily rental firm.
“CLM provides us with a comprehensive service and one that is very different to that provided by a single daily rental company. Its network means that we can access the appropriate type of vehicle in any part of the country where we need them.
“And the online rental management system means that we have a complete overview of all the vehicle hires, so that we know at all times what’s happening where. Online invoicing and reporting promises to provide us with a much better service than the one we had previously,”.
Simon Cotton, General Manager, at CLM, said:
“We are delighted to be working with Samaritan’s Purse to fulfil this year’s Christmas Child campaign. As you can imagine this is a huge logistical exercise, but having an extensive rental network, backed by an online rental management system, makes a real difference.
“The ability of our system to make and track bookings online, allied to online invoicing and a full suite of reporting, allows us to drive down processing and admin costs, which we are able to pass on to our customers in the shape of more attractive rental rates”.
CLM is also encouraging its staff to fill at least 50 shoe boxes with appropriate gifts to be sent to underprivileged children. The boxes have already been ordered and once filled with gifts, will be taken to the nearest collection point to the CLM offices in Newport Pagnell.
